As some of you have seen in my little run across Cello concertos:
http://www.goodsoundclub.com/TreeItem.aspx?PostID=2630
where I suggested that Rostropovich and Svetlanov with Russian State did the best Miaskovsky Cello Concerto that I’ve heard. We...

Only that a higher price may allow the constructor to get away fm the annoyingly ubiquitous "made to meet a price point" and push his design to his limits...Romy notes:[quote]I approach to the subject from a perspective of the OPPORTUNITIES THAT ML3 ...

Yep, the snow in Boston is kind of annoying this season. When
I rill out my snow blower the last time it looked and me and said: “Come on,
man!” BTW, talking about Casals… there was good show at local NPR about his
cello:

This past weekend I was able to have an extended listen to the revised Melchiades amplifers. My previous listening session left something to be desired with midbass punch and dynamics. Had I not have heard mini me it may not have been noticeable. ...

Romy, there is a project to reissue all of Svetlanov's recordings. Eventually, I hope, this project will make available the recording of the cello concerto by Natalia Gutman, which IMO is better than any of the recordings by Rostropovich.I do not kno...

[quote user="JJ Triode"]Yo-yo Ma will be playing Bach solo cello suites for 2.5 hours starting in a few minutes (noon Pacific Daylight Time in North America.) He has a YouTube channel and it is also carried on the website kusc.org and maybe elsewhere...

In her autobiography Galina Vishnevskay (the Rostropovich’s wife) wrote (translation is mine):
“In Moscow we spent only three weeks, and then by plane we returned to London to participate in the Festival of Soviet Art, just before 21 A...

So, did anyone find out if this is a complete set? Looks like it on the Amazon sites. And did anyone hear it yet? US Amazon has it as pre-order and Caymen has it in stock (supposedly), for $148.00, but on some French sites the...

I got today my “$1000 effect” with YoYoed Macondo sound. You know when you play something that you like, the one side of the record is over but you are so out there that you are willing to pay $1000 to somebody to turn the record over…
I playe...

The musical performances on the disc all seem excellent to me. I particularly liked the Kodaly cello piece which was new to me. The sound quality (when played on the ghetto blaster) seems pretty good as well. It certainly brings that machine to life....

I heard her play Schnittke's First Cello Concerto with the SF Symphony two years ago. It was one of the most devastating and searing (in a good way!) live performances I have ever heard! She put's 120% into her performances. Gutman has her own series...

Very interesting topic!I read from Neuhaus that piano is the most abstract instrument but at same time good at "imitating" orchestra or an instrument with big personality such as a cello. I wonder if the wood for piano sound board is a good can...

I listened to his Concerto-Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra today. I have only one performance of this piece, with Rostropovich/Svetlanov/Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and was wondering if anyone knew any other valuable performances.May yo...

Thanks Romy,Yes, I will explore Khachaturian more...I like him even though he keeps company with the lesser respected of composers. It is kind of a shame that the secondary composers often get pushed aside by the major, important work...

As good as there was the FM broadcast with Alisa Weilerstein and Inon Barnatan the actual concert today in New England Conservatory was a minor disappointment. Well, not really a disappointment – the program was too good to leave indifferent but my i...

Superb tone!I saw and listened to Maestro Rostropovich two times, both in my town... cello/piano on Beethoven, a fantastic performance, but cannot remember who the pianist was and once with Solisti Veneti (chamber orchestra) playing Boccherini and ot...

I haven't played Du Pre in a while, so I too will be absorbing her genius tomorrow, followed by a donation to the National MS Society. Her performances of Haydn, Boccerini, Schumann, and (of course) Elgar's Cello Concerti inspired me to as...

Wow, I mean really, really, really, really, really WOW!
A week ago I converted one of the Super Milqs to 5:1 loading and yesterday I converted another one. I loved what the last week converted amp did. It was very nice but today I put the entire sys...

Hi Paul, the Casals recording more than any other one that I have heard has a sense of musical direction. Expressions lead to the next, you never have to fill any thing in. If I were to compare what he does, it would be to the best orators at the Roya...

Cello HI I have only heard the Cole for a short time, so it wouldn't be fair to compare, also I really can't say to what extent the LCR circuit contributes to the sound of the 1500, the Allnic is very dynamic, has high resolution and makes inst...

First I want to say "Hello" to our host and to the other guests here.Sorry that I interfere here, but talking about PA inspiration and using PA parts in creative mode in dinning room, I can say that for about 15 years back I was starting my interest ...

A musician friend of mine said this"British orchestras tend to have violins (1st and 2nd) on the left, violas centre (usually asleep), cello to the right and basses far right. Many European orchestras have violins left and right, cellos and violas cen...
